The CHALK Belief:
“Chalk is where we translate ideas to colour and print.
To fabrics and design to personal style and smiles.
Ride with us and watch our ideas flow
And whirl into pieces of your own,
Specially designed for you in mind!”
Chalk is a Singapore-based line of womenswear, accessories and lifestyle products designed by Priscilla Tan.
Launched in 2009, Chalk is a manifestation of Priscilla’s creativity, giving form to her original ideas and inspirations. Drawing importance from self-expression, her clothes are easy to slip on, love, and wear unbothered. Spare without sparing character, they are designed to function and left alone for the wearer to make her own.
Priscilla creates each heart-felt season passionately and carefully. Boasting modern, sophisticated lines with an intimate attention to fit and detail, each piece enhances and flatters, rather than overpowers. Unique prints, a salute to Priscilla’s background as a visual artist, puts the finishing touches on a classy, versatile and fun look, a look that is distinctly Chalk, and uniquely you. Equally important is Priscilla’s attention to the details of construction, achieved by her personally inspecting all factories and exercising stringent quality inspection.
Clothing by Chalk promises to inject the fun back into dressing up!
DESIGNER PROFILE
Priscilla Tan is the designer behind Chalk.
She stumbled into fashion design at a tender age when her precious Barbie dolls got taken hostage by her beloved grandmother. You could say her love for fashion design actually stems from a compensatory mechanism sparked off by her tragic childhood event. But, as time has shown again and again, talent stems from a period of great suffering. And we all know how traumatic the fracture of self-identity can be when a young girl’s Barbie dolls are taken away from her!
Tragic childhood aside, Priscilla has now moved on to design clothes for the beautiful dolls of all ages that walk the streets of our contemporary society. Join her in her passion, as you become one of the many dolls to inspire her by looking through her work or by offering a kind word or two.
On a serious note, (although all the events stated above are rather true), Priscilla really graduated with a degree in Fashion Marketing at the University of Huddersfield and a diploma in Fashion Design at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Upon graduation, she was assistant fashion designer for Swirl, a Singapore fashion label for 2 years. And in 2007, she won the TOPSHOP/TOPMAN Fresh Graduate Showcase organized by the Singapore Fashion Week. She hopes to spend her life being inspired by fashion and all things beautiful.
